Gagan Narang takes over India’s Chef-de-Mission role for Paris Olympics 2024

Shooter Gagan Narang takes over reigns from Mary Kom as Chef-de-Mission of Indian contingent to Paris Olympics

In a major development ahead of next year’s Summer Olympics in Paris, shooter Gagan Narang has been appointed the new Chef-de-Mission of the Indian contingent. He replaces boxing legend Mary Kom who stepped down from the role earlier this year citing commitments. Making the announcement, Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha stated that the multiple-time Olympian Narang was the ideal candidate to lead the nation’s athletes in Paris given his experience of competing at the highest level.

Narang is no stranger to the pressures of the Olympic stage, having won a bronze medal in the men’s 10m air rifle event at the 2012 London Games. His achievements and calm demeanor make him well-suited to offer guidance and support to the contingent in France. In another significant announcement, badminton star PV Sindhu will join table tennis great A Sharath Kamal as one of India’s flagbearers during the opening ceremony in Paris. Sindhu, who created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals in Tokyo, is a fitting choice to represent the nation among world’s best athletes.

Under the stewardship of Narang and with big-match players like Sindhu and Kamal leading from the front, the Indian Olympic Association will be hoping for its best ever performance at the Summer Olympics when the sporting extravaganza kicks off in Paris next year. The new appointments have strengthened India’s Premier Olympic body ahead of one of the biggest multi-sport events.
