The victim, 36-year-old Karan Dev, was declared dead at Mata Rooprani Maggo Hospital on July 13 after being rushed in by his wife, Sushmita. Dev’s family, grief-stricken and unaware of anything unusual, declined a post-mortem, trusting the explanation provided by Sushmita.
However, Delhi Police weren’t ready to sign off so easily. Citing the young age of the victim and the unusual circumstances surrounding his sudden death, the authorities insisted on conducting an autopsy — a decision that would soon turn the case on its head.
The preliminary findings from the post-mortem raised several red flags. Injuries observed on Karan’s body did not fully align with a typical electrocution pattern, prompting investigators to dig deeper into the couple’s personal life. Police sources now say there are inconsistencies in Sushmita’s account of events leading up to her husband’s death.
Further investigation into the background of the couple is underway, including their relationship dynamics, financial matters, and communication records. Authorities are also questioning close friends, neighbors, and relatives to piece together the days and hours leading up to Karan’s death.
Police suspect that this could be a case of premeditated murder, possibly staged to appear as an accident. Investigators are exploring the angle of betrayal and domestic conflict, although no arrests have been made as of yet.
