Jammu, Jan 11: The Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered a case against a man for allegedly cheating two persons by issuing fake appointment orders in the name of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, officials said on Sunday.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Special Crime Wing, Jammu, Sanjay Parihar said the accused, Mohd Tahir of Banola village in Poonch district, has been booked for cheating and forgery under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case was registered on Saturday following complaints from two victims.
According to police, the accused duped the first complainant after meeting him during a train journey from Jammu to Roorkee and later developing friendly relations. Exploiting the acquaintance, Tahir allegedly assured him of a job in the High Court and took Rs 2 lakh, handing over a forged appointment letter purportedly issued by the court. The fraud came to light when the complainant approached High Court authorities for joining and was informed that the order was fake.
In the second case, police said the accused, who had known the complainant for a long time, initially took Rs 2 lakh citing his wife’s medical treatment. He later promised to secure a High Court job for the complainant’s son, collected documents, and provided a forged appointment order.
A preliminary verification conducted by the Crime Branch substantiated the allegations, following which a formal case was registered. Further investigation is underway. (Agencies)
