Jammu Tawi, August 05: The Executive Committee of Dogri Sangarsh Morch (DSM) expressed great shock over the sad demise of Padamshree and Sahitya Akademi Awardee Smt Padma Sachdev, who left for heavenly abode yesterday at Mumbai. The DSM Executive paid rich homage to the great Dogri poet and voracious writer who enriched the Dogri Language through her literary creations during the past seven decades. She was a legend of Dogri language and a household name in the literary field of India besides in the Dogras. With her efforts, Lata Mangeshkar gave her voice to some Dogri songs which are very famous and sweet. Besides writing number of books in Dogri, Padma Sachdev played very eminent role in the struggle for Dogri’s inclusion in the 8th Schedule of India’s Constitution during the years from 1992 to 2003. She played pivotal role in organizing meeting of Dogri Sangharsh Morcha with the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 29 Sept 2001 which proved decisive in Dogri’s inclusion in 8th Schedule on 22nd December 2003. That delegation comprised Padma Sachdev, Prof Nilamberdev Sharma, Dhanraj Bargotra, Mirza Abdul Rashid, Mohan Singh, Hari Chand Jalmeria, Balraj Puri, Th Randhir Singh, ND Jamwal, Prof Lalit Mangotra, Shivdev Singh Sushil, Praduman Singh Jandraiya, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, Th Kashmir Singh, Ghulam Mohd, HR Sathe, Prof Veena Gupta, Pushap Saraf, Sat Pal Sharma, Sat Pal Saraf.
Padma Sachdev had also participated in historic March and Dharna of Dogri Sangharash Morcha at India Gate on 8th July 1992 which, besides leaders of DSM, was joined by Dr Karan Singh, Surinder Mohan (Janta Dal leader), Hanan Mulla (CPM MP), SA Slaria (MP), Gulchain Singh Charak, Bhim Singh, Mangat Ram Sharma, Janak Raj Gupta, Saifudin Soz, GR Kar, Mirza Abdul Rashid, Dr Champa Sharma, Dr Veena Gupta, Dhanraj Bargotra, Prof Nilamberdev Sharma, Rattan Lal Gupta, Lal Mohd Sabar, ND Jamwal, Romal Singh Bhadwal, Shivdev Sushil, Dhian Singh, HC Jalmeria, Balwant Thakur, Bodh Raj Bali, HS Bali, Kuldip Singh.
The DSM paid homage and tributes to her. The Committee conveyed heartfelt condolences to the grieved family.
