Jammu Tawi: Sunil Dimple, President of the Mission Statehood, staged a sit-in outside the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Town Hall in support of the striking JMC Safai Karamchari Union. The protest was held to demand the cessation of privatization of JMC Jammu, permanent recruitment for safai karamcharis, and the immediate notification of the selected list of 600 safai karamcharis, among other demands of JMC employees. Addressing the protesters, Sunil Dimple extended full support to the indefinite strike by the safai karamcharis, which is set to begin on November 27, 2024. Dimple called upon prominent political figures, including Dr. Farooq Abdullah, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and all cabinet ministers of the newly formed J&K government, to immediately address the longstanding demands of the JMC workers, which have been pending for five years.
Dimple expressed strong opposition to the privatization of the JMC, claiming that it would lead to widespread unemployment among the city’s safai karamcharis and future generations. He also demanded the permanent recruitment of workers and the formal notification of the selected list of 600 safai karamcharis.
In his speech, Dimple criticized the lack of response from the Jammu city and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators, questioning their silence on the issue. He pledged to take the matter up with the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and other cabinet ministers to ensure the workers’ demands are met. The union leaders, including Rinku Gill, Shameem Bano, and S. Narinder Singh, thanked Sunil Dimple for his unwavering support in their fight for their rights.
