Delimitation Row: Burned by Jammu’s share, NC MPs to submit dissent note

Srinagar, Dec 30: Feeling burned after being served with their own dish, three Members of Parliament (MPs) from Kashmir valley belonging to Kashmir centric National Conference will submit their dissent note over the proposed allocation of 6 assembly seats to Jammu Division by the delimitation commission on Friday.

National Conference Lok Sabha member, Hasnain Masoodi said they will file their objections to the proposal tomorrow.

The draft proposal shared by the delimitation commission with MPs from Jammu and Kashmir on December 20 has got the Kashmiris on toes as out of seven new seats, six have been allocated to Jammu and only one to Kashmir which is the exact opposite of what has been done to the deserving Jammu Region all these years by Kashmir centric political parties.

These parties including National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and others have opposed the proposal, by claiming to be biased and partisan. Pertinently, in the previous delimitation exercises, every time the shrewd Kashmir political parties ensured that Kashmir region got a handsome increase in the number of seats claimed as a matter of right and on the false pretentious ground of parity thereby robbing the due share of seats for the deserving Jammu Region.

In the meeting, the panel headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice (retd.) Ranjana Desai shared details about the proposed allocation of Assembly seats to various districts in the Union Territory and the number of seats to be reserved for Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes.

As already reported, the panel has decided to reserve seven seats for SCs and nine seats for STs in the 90-member Assembly.
