Consensus on some seats with Congress yet to be finalised: Omar

    Date:

Srinagar, Aug 23: A day after Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah announced a pre-poll alliance with Congress in and for the upcoming Assembly elections, NC Vice President Omar Abdullah said that consensus on some seats is yet to be finalized.

Accompanying party candidate and former Minister Sakina Itoo, who filed her nomination papers from the Damhal Hanji Pora assembly seat in Kulgam district, Omar told media persons, “The consensus on seat sharing with Congress has been largely resolved, but some seats remain to be finalized.”

He explained that out of 90 assembly seats, most have been mutually agreed upon, but disagreements persist on a few seats. “We are adamant on some seats, Congress is on others, and local leaders also have their preferences,” Omar said.

The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister revealed that another meeting is scheduled to resolve the seat-sharing within the alliance parameters.

“We will try to finalize the seat sharing today so that we can announce the names of other candidates,” he added.

When asked about the candidates' names, Omar replied, “It's not possible to reveal them yet. Let the final list be approved by the party President before making it public.” He assured that the list of candidates will be announced before August 27.

Omar expressed hope that the NC will form the next government to serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir, citing their people's manifesto. “We have taken the lead by filing nomination papers from Kulgam today,” he said.
