‘Collapsed in Uniform Dreams, Woke to Nightmare in Ambulance’

GAYA, July 26: A 26-year-old woman participating in a Home Guard recruitment drive in Bihar’s Gaya district has alleged that she was gang-raped inside a moving ambulance after collapsing during a physical test on July 24.

The woman had reportedly fainted during a physical endurance test at the Bihar Military Police grounds in Bodh Gaya, following which event organisers arranged for her transfer to a hospital via a stationed ambulance.

In her police complaint, she stated that she was semi-conscious during the ambulance ride and later informed police and medical staff that she was raped by three to four men while being transported.

An FIR was promptly registered at the Bodh Gaya police station, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) along with a forensic unit was deployed. Within hours, two suspects — Vinay Kumar (ambulance driver) and Ajit Kumar (technician) — were arrested and are currently in police custody. Investigators confirmed that CCTV footage from the area has helped verify the vehicle’s route and timeline.

The woman is under medical care, and her statement is being further examined. Authorities have not ruled out the involvement of more individuals.

The incident has sparked political outrage. Chirag Paswan, MP from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), strongly condemned the incident and criticised the state’s deteriorating law-and-order situation, demanding accountability from the Bihar police.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials have assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
