    Cold wave grips Kashmir; Srinagar records coldest night at -4.1°C

    Srinagar, Dec 6: The cold wave in Kashmir has intensified, with Srinagar recording its coldest night of the season at minus 4.1°C on Friday, marking a sharp drop from the previous night’s minus 2.1°C. The temperature is 2.9°C below the normal for this time of year, according to the Meteorological Department.

    The cold was even more severe in popular tourist destinations. Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 6.5°C, down from minus 5.3°C the previous night, and 3.2°C below the seasonal average. Gulmarg, known for its ski resorts, saw temperatures dip to minus 4.3°C from minus 3.6°C, while Konibal recorded minus 6.0°C.

    Other regions also experienced lower-than-normal temperatures. Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, recorded minus 4.4°C, and Kupwara saw a low of minus 3.4°C. Both temperatures were below the usual seasonal range.

    The Meteorological Office has forecast dry weather for the next few days, with temperatures likely to remain low. However, a weak Western Disturbance is expected to bring light rain and snowfall to the higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley between December 8 and 9. There are also chances of thunder and gusty winds in parts of the Jammu division on December 8.

    The MeT office has also indicated a possibility of rain and light snow on December 15 and 16 over isolated areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
