New Delhi, Dec 1: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday extended his greetings to the Border Security Force (BSF) on its Raising Day, highlighting the pivotal role the force plays in safeguarding India’s borders and national security. In a post on X, Shah praised the BSF personnel for their unwavering determination and sacrifices, stating that they stand as a resolute shield protecting the honor and aspirations of India.
Shah emphasized the courage, selflessness, and willingness of BSF soldiers to make the ultimate sacrifice, noting that these qualities epitomize their commitment to serving the nation. “The soldiers of the @BSF_India have safeguarded the honor and the ambitions of Bharat with the fiercest determination, never thinking twice to lay down their lives for it,” Shah said. He also expressed his solemn homage to the bravehearts who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
The BSF, which guards India’s 3,323 km border with Pakistan and 4,096 km with Bangladesh, was established on December 1, 1965, following the 1965 India-Pakistan war. Prior to its formation, border security was managed by state armed police battalions, but the challenges faced during the conflict highlighted the need for a specialized force. As a result, the BSF was created under the Ministry of Home Affairs to protect the nation’s borders, prevent illegal activities, and support counter-insurgency operations.
With over 2,65,000 personnel across 192 battalions, the BSF plays a crucial role in defending India’s territorial integrity and maintaining peace along its borders. Since its inception, the force has been a cornerstone of India’s national security efforts.
