BSF ramps up vigil on unfenced borders along swollen rivers in Jammu amid heavy rainfall

JAMMU, July 24: With Jammu witnessing relentless rainfall and surging river levels, the Border Security Force (BSF) Water Wing has stepped up vigil along the unfenced stretches of the international border where rivers flow into Pakistan.

The region remains under alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted a “generally cloudy sky with moderate rain” for Thursday. Temperatures are expected to range between 25°C and 28°C.

On Wednesday, heavy downpours lashed various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, leading to a significant rise in the Poonch river’s water level. In response, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) deployed teams to monitor high-risk zones and ensure public safety.

“We have been deployed by the district administration and state government. Due to the persistent heavy rain, we’re urging people to stay away from water bodies,” said ASI Zakir of SDRF Poonch. “We are taking all necessary precautions to prevent casualties.”

The rising river waters, particularly near the international border, have prompted coordinated action between BSF units and civil authorities to manage potential flood-related emergencies and curb cross-border vulnerabilities.

Security forces and emergency teams remain on high alert, urging locals to exercise caution and report any distress situations promptly. (Agencies)
