Authorities ban underage driving, issues strict guidelines

Srinagar, Nov 19: The Directorate of School Education Kashmir on Tuesday issued a ban on the driving of vehicles by minor students, directing all educational institutions in the region to ensure that no student is allowed to enter school premises while operating any motor vehicle, including both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.

In a circular issued by the directorate, a copy of which lies with news agency the authorities expressed concern over the rising incidents of underage driving among students, which have led to tragic road accidents and pose a significant threat to public safety.

The circular emphasized that both private and government schools, as well as coaching centers, must maintain strict vigilance to ensure that no minor student is permitted to attend classes while driving any motor vehicle.

“Students arriving at schools or coaching centres using motor vehicles of any type must not be permitted entry under any circumstances, and their parents should be informed accordingly,” the circular stated. It also highlighted the responsibility of parents and guardians to ensure compliance with the directive.

The Directorate has urged schools to promptly communicate the new rule to parents and guardians, stressing the need for awareness and cooperation in maintaining road safety and protecting students from harm.

The move comes as part of ongoing efforts to address road safety concerns and curb the increasing incidents of underage driving in the region. Further updates on the implementation of the directive are expected as schools take action. (KNO)
