‘Auron Mein Kaha Dum Tha' Fails to Ignite at the Box Office in Opening Weekend
The recently released crime thriller ‘Auron Mein Kaha Dum Tha', starring veteran actors Ajay Devgn and Tabu, had a disappointing opening weekend at the box office. According to reports, the Neeraj Pandey directorial managed to collect only Rs. 6.75 crore in its first three days.
While the film saw a slight rise in collections on day two with a 16% increase over its opening day total, it was unable to gain momentum over the weekend. Collections grew marginally on Sunday but the overall weekend figures of Rs. 6.75 crore are the lowest recorded for a Devgn-Tabu collaboration to date. Their acclaimed past works like ‘Drishyam', ‘Golmaal Again', ‘De De Pyar De', and the hit sequel ‘Drishyam 2' had all delivered considerably higher opening weekends.
Even Devgn's previous box office bomb ‘Maidaan' managed almost double the collections of ‘Auron Mein Kaha Dum Tha' during its first weekend. The underperformance is particularly worrying as the film released alongside another potential flop in Janhvi Kapoor's ‘Ulajh', which amassed even lower figures of Rs. 4.90 crore in its first three days.
Despite a two-for-one ticket promotion on day one, ‘Auron Mein Kaha Dum Tha' failed to gain traction over the weekend. With such lackluster opening numbers, it faces an uphill battle to recover costs at the box office. Only time will tell if positive word-of-mouth or strong weekday traffic can help boost its prospects.
