Aubrey Medina Tells Us 5 Unexpected Lessons She’s Learned From a Career in Bingo

Date:

Whilst scrolling across the web to learn more about the iGaming scene, we found the website JohnSlots, and their writers page listed a writer who specialises in Bingo.

Intrigued, we got into contact with her and asked for a quick Zoom interview. Happily, she obliged.

So without further ado, this is the transcript of our interview with Aubrey Medina, an online bingo specialist from JohnSlots, telling us the 5 most unexpected lessons that she has learned during her career so far:

Hi Aubrey, How Is The Of Bingo Today?

Hello! It's good, thank you. Bingo has been seeing a bit of a resurgence over the last few years, and 2023 was bigger and better than ever before for everyone who loves the game.

Can You Tell Us Why People Love The Game?

I think people love it because they're hardwired to love it. Believe it or not, Bingo has been around since 1530. Apparently it has its roots in Italy, originating from the Italian lottery, known as “Gioco del Lotto d'Italia”! It then spread to France and, ultimately, the whole world. But I feel like it's only got bigger since I've had a career in it. I'm not saying that's anything to do with me, by the way!

Speaking Of Your Career, We Wanted To Know What Your 5 Most Unexpected Lessons Were

Since working as a Bingo specialist? It's hard to say. At the end of the day, Bingo is an incredibly simple game, so working in this area is very much what I expected. But then again, I have learned a few things. I'd say my first lesson was in the online-sphere. Before starting on this journey, I didn't know how much the online experience of Bingo matches the traditional experience. Over 100 million people play online bingo, and that number is only growing. I think that's down to convenience, mostly. People like Bingo, so of course they're going to like the opportunity to play it any time, anywhere.

Okay, What About Lesson Number Two?

Lesson number two kind of comes back to lesson number one! I thought that online Bingo might not be as popular as traditional Bingo because it's such a social game. But actually, the best thing about online Bingo is that it caters towards an audience that wants the convenience of online Bingo, but the social aspect of traditional Bingo. There are so many avenues for players to play the game, converse with other players, even have a live number caller.

In Terms Of Online Bingo, Why Do You Think That Appeals Over Other Casino Games?

Well, that's actually lesson number three. I've learned that Bingo appeals because you're not really playing. At least, you're not playing in the same way that you would play Blackjack or Poker. In both of those games, you're putting together tactics and skills to beat opposing players, or beat the house, as is the case in Blackjack. In Bingo, there is no house to beat. It's all about luck. In that way, it's more of a relaxing experience, with lower stakes. That's something that players find really enjoyable. You just sit down, play, chat, and wait for luck to strike!

Okay, So That's Three Lessons So Far. What About The Fourth?

Hmm. It's tricky. I guess another thing I've learned is how much nostalgia has to do with the game. As a Bingo specialist, I find myself writing a lot about different Bingo platforms, and a common theme is the word “retro”. There are so many retro Bingo platforms, and I think that's because the older generation want to feel the nostalgia and experience something that takes them back through the years. Like I said before, Bingo is an old game. It's traditional, everyone knows about it, and everyone found it at a different time in their lives. That's why you can play 90's-themed Bingo, 80's-themed Bingo, 70's-themed Bingo, the list goes on and on.

Now For The Fifth And Final Lesson…

I'll keep on the same track for my final lesson. Although you can find a load of retro Bingo games, I've found that Bingo is a multi-generational game, and it's now being really hyped up by younger Bingo players in their 20's and 30's. Certain land-based Bingo companies like Bongo's Bingo have been responsible for that – they're an event company that put on social events that include Bingo, dances, karaoke, wild and wacky prizes, and people love it. There's really a noticeable movement amongst this generation. And that's what makes it so exciting to be a part of.
