AI Crash preliminary report submitted to Centre, Public release expected soon

New Delhi, July 8: The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has submitted its preliminary report on the Air India 171 crash to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and other concerned authorities, according to top government officials. The report offers an initial assessment and early findings into the cause of the June 12 disaster.

The contents of the report have not been made public yet, but officials indicated that it may offer crucial insights into the factors leading to the tragic incident. The public release is expected later this week.

The Air India flight, en route to London from Ahmedabad, crashed just 32 seconds after take-off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport, killing 241 people, including former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, two pilots, and 10 cabin crew. Only one survivor, seated in 11A, escaped the tragedy.

In an effort to understand the cause, Air India training pilots attempted to simulate possible failure scenarios involving electrical issues and dual-engine flameouts on Boeing 787s in Mumbai. However, they were unable to recreate the conditions that led to the crash.

The AAIB’s final investigation report is expected to take several more months.
