Rajya Sabha on Tuesday returned appropriation bills for Jammu and Kashmir and Puducherry for the financial year 2021-22. These bills have already been passed by the Lok Sabha.
The bills authorise payment and appropriation of certain sums from and out of the consolidated fund of the two union territories for the services of the financial year 2021-22 in their respective jurisdictions.
The Jammu and Kashmir Appropriation Bill, 2021, the Jammu and Kashmir Appropriation (No.2) Bill, 2021, the Puducherry Appropriation Bill, 2021, and the Puducherry Appropriation (Vote on Account) Bill, 2021, were considered and returned by the Upper House of Parliament.
The Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice Tuesday after the Opposition benches protested against the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021, which seeks to give more power to Delhi Lieutenant Governor. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party has sought the support of all opposition parties requesting them to oppose the bill in Rajya Sabha.
Meanwhile, amidst outcry over high taxes on motor fuel, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said she would be “glad” to discuss the suggestion of bringing petrol and diesel under the ambit of the Goods and Services Tax at the next meeting of the GST Council.
