Kulgam police have arrested a professor namely Shabir Ahmed from Udhampur District of Jammu Division who is working at Govt. Degree College under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The arrested accused is currently posted as professor of Geography. Police officials said that there were four cases registered against him in Kulgam. Police spokesperson said that while the police was engaged in investigation, the accused was transferred to Udhampur.
The police claims that the accused used to instigate youth to tread terrorism path at the behest of the terrorists. He was under surveillance for long, says Police.
His brother, an advocate, Naik told a news portal, “He used to speak against corruption and other issues that affect the society at the large.” His activism had led to the removal of a couple of officers, said Naik, adding that it seems a case of ‘vendetta’.
Naik said that Bari has been booked in an old case (UAPA) and kept under detention in the Kulgam district. “I have come to know that my brother has been booked in a 2018 related case, which was lodged in Police Station Kulgam under FIR NO. 191/2018 U/S 153, 353, 13 UAPA,” Naik told the news portal.
Accused as per his brother had been issued a show-cause notice in connection to the case. In his response to the notice.
He has one more UAPA case registered against him under the FIR No 83/2019 U/S 252, 427 RPC 13, 18, 19, 38, 39 UAPA Act P/S Yaripora.
Dr. Bari as per his brother was recently transferred to the Government Degree College in Udhampur from Kulgam. “Dr. Bari was arrested on duty at the College premises in Udhampur on Friday and he was shifted to Kulgam on Saturday.”
