National Conference leader and former J&K chief minister Farooq Abdullah said on Tuesday that the elected members of the recently held District Development Council (DDC) are being purchased in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Elected members are being purchased to force the members to vote for others,” he said.
The former union minister also criticized the government of India for not fulfilling the developmental promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Not even one of the 50,000 jobs promised to the people of Jammu and Kashmir has been delivered. Tourism sector, industries and shopkeepers have suffered. There is rampant poverty in JK,” Farooq Abdullah said.
He urged the Union Law Minister to bring some law to stop such activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
He urged the government of India to embrace the people of Kashmir. “My workers, ministers were killed because they held on to tricolor. I request you to embrace the people of Kashmir. If we want to make India, we must do it together,” the three time chief minister said.
Dr Abdullah made an impassionate appeal in the Lok Sabha while urging the Centre to consult protesting farmers, Farooq Abdullah said, “I am thankful that 4G services have been restored [in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking over the new farm laws in the Lok Sabha, National Conference leader said these laws are not religious scripture to which changes cannot be made. ‘If they (farmers) want it to be repealed, why can’t you talk to them? I request that let’s not stand on prestige. It’s our nation. We belong to this nation, let’s respect everybody in the nation,’ he said.
On the coronavirus, Abdullah claimed India reported more deaths numbers than the US and UK even as the number of cases was comparatively less. ‘Our medical services aren’t that good that cause of deaths can be ascertained in villages. Still, vaccines have been developed for which I congratulate those in Pune,’ he said.
