The White: Tragedy and beauty

    Hina Jaan

Kashmir is known for it’s charming beauty across the globe. In winters it’s just like a white heaven. In Kashmir valley, December, January and February are the main winter months. During these months, Kashmir remains snow clad which makes it stunning and enchanting. Kashmir has recently got a white and bewitching taste of snowfall in the month of January. All the things were covered with the white glittering sheet of snow which was bestowed to it by nature, just like an elixir.

People enjoyed the snowfall by clicking pictures, making snow models like snowmen, or simply by snow war notably known as “Sheen Jung” in Kashmir: The trio has it’s own savour and significance.

But, while we enjoy the snow, it is also a white Tragedy as well. Animals and birds are dying out of hunger. The birds that used to sing in a fantabulous tune are now waiting for people to give them something to satisfy their hunger. The night full of coruscating stars is too cold that the water freezes, which hits the everyday life of people. People keep peeping at taps to see a run off of a single drop of water from these taps.

Most of the air pollution also takes place during winter because of the contaminated air produced by chimneys of homes. Vehicles also function in an uncanny way : the engines get frozen, the windows get stuck. Most of the road accidents also occur during winter, because of the frozen ,slippery and tricky snow. Schools also remain closed when an unanticipated amount of snowfall occurs.

So, winter is a white beauty that we want to embrace as well as a white tragedy that we eventually meet with at the eleventh hour.
