JAMMU, July 15: A former sarpanch was killed after a boulder rolled down a hillside and struck his car on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district on Wednesday, police officials said.
The deceased, identified as 60-year-old Mohd Iqbal Tantray, was driving from Seri village to Ramban town when the boulder hit his vehicle near Trishul Morh, leaving him critically injured.
Station House Officer (SHO) Ramban, Vikram Singh Parihar, said the boulder struck Tantray on the head. He was immediately shifted to the District Hospital Ramban, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident, the officer said.
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remains vulnerable to shooting stones and landslides, especially during the monsoon season. Authorities have repeatedly advised commuters to remain cautious while travelling through landslide-prone and vulnerable stretches of the highway. (Agencies)
