Jammu, Jul 14: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has made Aadhaar authentication mandatory for individuals registering under the Drug De-addiction Registry Portal (DDRP) to enhance transparency, prevent misuse and strengthen monitoring of de-addiction services across the Union Territory.
According to a notification issued by the Health and Medical Education Department, beneficiaries seeking treatment through the DDRP must authenticate their identity using Aadhaar or provide proof of having an Aadhaar number. The portal, managed by the State Drug Controller Office under the Narcotics Coordination Centre (NCORD), maintains records of patients undergoing treatment and regulates the distribution of psychotropic medicines prescribed during de-addiction programmes.
The DDRP facilitates treatment, counselling, rehabilitation and the supply of prescribed medicines. Officials said mandatory Aadhaar verification is expected to streamline patient records, eliminate duplicate registrations and improve oversight of government-supported de-addiction services.
The notification, however, ensures that individuals without an Aadhaar number will not be denied treatment. Such beneficiaries will continue to receive healthcare services while completing the Aadhaar enrolment process through the prescribed mechanism.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at improving accountability, enhancing the efficiency of the de-addiction programme and ensuring that treatment facilities and medicines are extended only to genuine beneficiaries. (Agencies)
