Srinagar, Jun 19: A suspended Jammu and Kashmir Police constable was arrested after allegedly being found in possession of a heroin-like substance during an overnight naka checking operation in Srinagar, officials said on Friday.
The accused, identified as Asif Rehman Reshi, son of Abdul Rehman Reshi and a resident of Bonpora, Batamaloo, has been under suspension from the police force since 2025, officials said.
He was intercepted by a police team from Police Station Shergari during naka checking at Alochi Bagh Bund and subjected to a personal search. During the search, police allegedly recovered around seven grams of a heroin-like substance from his possession, leading to his immediate arrest and seizure of the contraband.
A case under FIR No. 32/2026 has been registered at Police Station Shergari under Sections 8/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and probe any possible links connected to the case. (Agencies)
