Fresh Travel Warning: India Urges Citizens to Leave Iran

NEW DELHI, June 8: India on Monday reiterated its advisory urging citizens to avoid travel to Iran and advised those currently in the country to leave through available means of transport in view of the worsening security situation in the region.

In an urgent advisory issued on social media, the Indian Embassy in Iran renewed its earlier warning and asked Indian nationals to refrain from undertaking any travel to the country.

“Indian nationals presently in Iran are also advised to exit the country by available means of transport,” the embassy said.

The advisory follows the latest escalation in hostilities after Israel launched airstrikes targeting central and western Iran in response to missile attacks from Tehran.

Earlier, on April 7, India had advised its citizens in Iran to remain at their current locations for 48 hours amid rising tensions in the region.

The latest warning comes against the backdrop of heightened geopolitical uncertainty after US President Donald Trump warned Iran of serious consequences if it failed to end its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to official estimates, around 9,000 Indians, including students, were in Iran when the conflict intensified following strikes on Iranian targets by Israel and the United States on February 28.

Officials said nearly 1,800 Indian nationals have returned home so far, while efforts continue to monitor the situation and assist citizens remaining in the country. (Agencies)
