US House Passes Resolution To Curb Trump’s Military Action In Iran

WASHINGTON, Jun 4: The US House of Representatives has passed a resolution seeking to prevent President Donald Trump from taking further military action in Iran without congressional approval, marking a rare bipartisan challenge to the administration’s war policy.

The resolution was approved by a 215-208 vote, with four Republicans joining Democrats in support. It is the fourth attempt by the House to rein in Trump’s war powers amid concerns that the conflict with Iran, which began in February, lacks authorization from Congress.

The measure now moves to the Republican-controlled Senate for consideration. However, even if approved there, it is unlikely to completely halt military action, as Trump could veto the resolution. Overriding such a veto would require a two-thirds majority in both chambers of Congress.

A similar resolution advanced in the Senate in May after seven unsuccessful attempts, but it has yet to receive a full floor vote.

Republican lawmakers Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett and Warren Davidson joined Democrats in backing the measure. Democratic Representative Jared Golden of Maine, who had previously opposed similar resolutions, also voted in favour of the proposal.
