J&K: BDO Plangher Suspended Over Poor Progress in Electoral Roll Revision

RAJOURI, Apr 28: District Panchayat Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner) Rajouri Abhishek Sharma has placed Block Development Officer (BDO) Plangher, Mohtshim Hanief, under suspension with immediate effect for poor progress in the ongoing Panchayat Electoral Roll Revision-2026.

Officials said the officer, who was also serving as Assistant Electoral Registration Officer, failed to discharge duties properly, leading to delayed and incomplete revision of electoral rolls, non-adherence to prescribed guidelines and timelines, and lack of supervision over field staff.

They said the lapses adversely affected the integrity and reliability of the revision process.

Despite repeated warnings regarding slow progress, including official communications issued on Apr 10 and Apr 17, the officer failed to meet expectations.

During special camps held on Apr 25 and Apr 26, all concerned officers had been directed to achieve a benchmark of 4 percent addition in the electoral roll within the stipulated time, officials said.

However, the BDO allegedly did not comply with the directions.

Accordingly, the officer has been placed under suspension pending further inquiry, officials said.

During the suspension period, he has been attached to the office of Assistant Commissioner Panchayat Rajouri and directed not to leave headquarters without prior permission.
