Jammu, Feb 18: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday informed the Assembly that 219 ventilators are defunct across 10 Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) and the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in the Union Territory.
Replying to a starred question by MLA Shamim Firdous, Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo said 658 of the total 877 ventilators installed in GMCs, associated hospitals and SKIMS are functional, while 219 are non-functional.
According to the data tabled in the House, GMC Jammu and its associated hospitals have 320 ventilators, including 111 defunct. GMC Srinagar’s SMHS Hospital has eight non-functional ventilators out of 76, while 44 of 173 ventilators in its other associated hospitals are not working.
At GMC Anantnag and its associated hospitals, only 10 of 36 ventilators are functional, with 26 defunct. GMC Baramulla reported two non-functional ventilators out of 41 and GMC Doda 10 out of 27.
GMC Kathua has two non-functional ventilators out of 52, GMC Rajouri three out of 54, while all 39 ventilators at GMC Udhampur and all six at GMC Handwara are functional.
At SKIMS Soura, 13 of 53 ventilators were reported defunct, the minister said. (Agencies)
