No Plan to Waive Power Arrears of Small, Marginal Farmers in J&K: Govt

JAMMU, Feb 17: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday told the Legislative Assembly that there is no proposal under consideration to waive outstanding electricity usage charges or arrears for small and marginal farmers in the Union Territory.

In a written reply to a question by Prof. Gharu Ram, the Minister in-charge of the Power Development Department said the government does not intend to waive electricity arrears.

The House was informed that power distribution companies (DISCOMs) are already supplying electricity to the agriculture sector at heavily subsidised tariff rates across J&K. (KNC)
