New ECINET Platform Launched to Counter Electoral Misinformation

New Delhi, Jan 22: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Thursday launched ECINET, a new digital platform for voters, officials, and political parties, describing it as a tool to counter misinformation in elections.

The platform integrates over 40 existing mobile and web applications into a single interface, including the Voter Helpline App, Voter Turnout App, cVIGIL, Suvidha, Saksham, and KYC App, which together have over 5.5 crore downloads. ECINET aims to reduce the burden on users from downloading multiple apps and remembering different logins, while enabling access to accurate electoral data on desktops and smartphones.

Kumar highlighted that the platform ensures data is entered solely by authorised EC officials, guaranteeing authenticity. In cases of conflict, primary data from statutory forms will prevail.

The CEC also offered assistance to election management bodies from other countries attending an international conference in New Delhi, encouraging them to develop similar platforms in their languages and under their laws to tackle misinformation effectively. (Agencies)
