Srinagar: Security arrangements have been intensified across Kashmir ahead of Republic Day, with police stepping up patrolling and vehicle checks to prevent any attempt by anti-national elements to disrupt the celebrations, officials said on Thursday.
Roads leading to Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, the venue for the main official Republic Day function in the Valley, have been fortified with security barricades and related obstacles at multiple points. Senior district-level police officers are personally supervising the arrangements to ensure effective implementation of the security plan.
Officials said that as part of the enhanced security grid, police personnel have been deployed at strategic locations across the Valley, particularly in Srinagar city. “In view of the forthcoming Republic Day celebrations, police have intensified security and checking measures to ensure a peaceful, safe and incident-free national event,” officials said.
Special checkpoints and mobile patrols have been established, where thorough checking of vehicles and individuals is being carried out. Night patrols and surprise inspections are also being conducted to maintain heightened vigilance and deter any attempts to disturb public order, they added.
Additional deployments have been made in sensitive areas, with a special focus on monitoring suspicious movements. Police have appealed to the public to cooperate during checking and verification processes and urged citizens to immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or the Police Control Room.
