JAMMU, Jan 10: Security forces seized an arms consignment allegedly dropped by a drone from Pakistan near the International Border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Saturday.
The recovered cache comprised two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds of ammunition and a grenade. The seizure comes amid heightened security arrangements to foil any attempt by terrorists to disrupt the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.
According to officials, a joint team of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the J&K Police launched a search operation in Paloora village of Ghagwal late Friday night after inputs about suspected drone movement from across the border.
During the search, the teams detected a packet wrapped in yellow tape lying on the banks of a stream. The packet was safely opened with the assistance of a bomb disposal squad, leading to the recovery of the weapons.
Officials said the search operation was still underway when last reports were received. (Agencies)
