Rajouri, Jan 3: Police on Saturday arrested a man and recovered a narcotic substance during a routine vehicle checking operation in the Sunderbani area of Rajouri district, officials said.
The arrest was made during an early-morning naka checking by a police team from Police Station Sunderbani at the GV Police Naka near ITI College. A passenger tempo bearing registration number PB01D-8780, travelling from Jammu towards Rajouri, was intercepted for inspection.
During frisking of the passengers, police recovered around four grams of a narcotic substance resembling chitta from one individual. The accused was identified as Skander Shah, son of Manawar Hussain Shah, a resident of Dharaj, Tehsil Kotranka (Kandi), District Rajouri.
Police said the accused was immediately taken into custody and the recovered contraband was seized following due legal procedure. A case FIR No. 1/2026 under Sections 08, 21 and 22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Sunderbani.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the narcotics and to identify any possible links connected with the contraband, police added. (KNT)
