‘Chardham Yatra’ Temporarily Suspended Due To Heavy Rains In Uttarakhand

DEHRADUN, Jul 20: The Chardham Yatra in Uttarakhand was temporarily suspended on Monday following heavy rainfall and landslides along the pilgrimage routes, officials said.

The decision was taken as a precaution after weather authorities issued red and orange alerts warning of intense rainfall across parts of the state.

Heavy rains triggered landslides at several locations on the yatra routes, prompting the administration to halt the movement of pilgrims.

Authorities have directed local officials to ensure that no pilgrim is allowed to proceed until weather conditions improve and the routes are declared safe.

The annual Chardham Yatra to the shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri and Gangotri commenced in April this year. (Agencies)
