New Delhi, Dec 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday told NDA MPs that no innocent Indian should face harassment or inconvenience due to any law or rule, stressing that such measures must always serve the common people. Addressing an NDA parliamentary party meeting, he said reforms should extend across all sectors of society, not just the economy.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, briefing reporters after the meeting, said the prime minister laid out clear guidelines for lawmakers, urging them to ensure that rules and regulations improve lives rather than create hurdles. Modi emphasised that laws must never become instruments of harassment and should be designed for public convenience.
Modi also called on MPs to work collectively to accelerate development at “triple the speed” and engage more closely with youth, sports and public activities.
At the start of the meeting, NDA leaders felicitated Modi for the alliance’s sweeping victory in the recent Bihar Assembly elections. Senior union ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and J P Nadda were among those present at the Parliament House complex.
Modi was garlanded by JD(U) leader Sanjay Jha and Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief Upendra Kushwaha, both Rajya Sabha MPs. The NDA won 202 out of 243 seats in the Bihar polls, enabling JD(U) supremo Nitish Kumar to return as chief minister for the 10th time. Among the allies, BJP secured 89 seats, JD(U) 85, LJP (Ram Vilas) 19, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) five, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha four. (Agencies)
