New Delhi, Nov 29: ICC Chairman Jay Shah has been conferred the ‘Outstanding Achievement Award for Contributions to Indian Women’s Cricket’ at CNN-News18’s Indian of the Year ceremony, recognising his role in transforming women’s cricket in the country.
Shah dedicated the honour to India’s women cricketers, especially the current team that recently clinched the ICC Women’s World Cup. “Harman (Harmanpreet Kaur) is here, and so are Jhulan Di and Mithali, and I would like to dedicate this award to all of you,” he said during the event on Friday.
Reflecting on his tenure as BCCI secretary, Shah highlighted major reforms undertaken under his leadership, including strengthening domestic cricket structures, securing a landmark media rights deal, and pushing women’s cricket to the forefront.
He also underscored policy decisions made before his term ended in December 2024, such as implementing pay parity between men’s and women’s cricketers and launching the Women’s Premier League (WPL), both considered milestones in elevating the sport. (Agencies)
