New Delhi, Oct 28: India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, who sustained a ruptured spleen and rib cage injury during the third ODI against Australia, has been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a Sydney hospital and is now reported to be in a stable condition, easing concerns over his health.
A BCCI source confirmed that Iyer is improving steadily. “He has been shifted out of ICU and may take a few more days before he is discharged from the hospital in Sydney,” the official told PTI on condition of anonymity.
Iyer suffered the injury while attempting a difficult running catch to dismiss Alex Carey off Harshit Rana’s bowling. Although he initially walked off the field with assistance, his condition deteriorated later as vital parameters dropped, prompting his immediate hospitalization.
Medical examinations revealed internal bleeding from a lacerated spleen, after which he was placed in the ICU for observation. BCCI’s head of medical services, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, praised the on-field medical team for their swift intervention, which helped prevent a potentially life-threatening situation.
Meanwhile, Iyer’s family members are expected to fly to Sydney to be by his side as he continues his recovery. (Agencies)
