New Delhi, Oct 9: In a significant intelligence-led operation, Punjab Police’s Counter-Intelligence unit in Jalandhar successfully busted a terror module linked to the Pakistan-based Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), officials confirmed on Thursday. During the operation, authorities recovered 2.5 kilograms of IED, reportedly intended for a targeted terror attack, and apprehended two operatives associated with the module.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav took to X to share details of the breakthrough, stating, “In a major breakthrough against Pakistan’s ISI-backed terror network, the Counter-Intelligence unit in Jalandhar has busted a Babbar Khalsa International (#BKI) terror module. The module, operated under the direction of UK-based handlers Nishan Jaurian and Adesh Jamarai on instructions from BKI mastermind Harwinder Singh Rinda, yielded 2.5 kg of IED/RDX along with a remote control device.”
This operation comes on the heels of another successful bust by the Counter-Intelligence wing of Amritsar Police, which dismantled a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling network linked to Pakistan. DGP Yadav said that in the Amritsar operation, two operatives—Gurjant Singh and Gurvel Singh, residents of TarnTaran—were apprehended, and authorities seized 2.5 kilograms of heroin along with five sophisticated pistols and magazines.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that the arrested individuals were acting on instructions from a Pakistan-based smuggler to bring contraband into India across the border,” DGP Yadav added.
Regarding the recovered weapons, the DGP explained that these arms were intended to be distributed among gangsters and criminal networks to facilitate unlawful activities across Punjab.
The dual operations underscore the Punjab Police’s continued vigilance against cross-border terrorism, smuggling, and organized crime, highlighting their coordinated efforts to neutralize threats to the state and prevent potential terror strikes. (Agencies)
