Mumbai, October 6: Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority chief, Unmesh Sharad Wagh asked the Businessmen and Exporters to avail the best facilities for Export and Import from the port as it is the relevant Gateway for Jammu and Kashmir. He invited the trade houses and exporters of J&K to participate and witness a mega Maritime Week commencing in the last week of October in Mumbai to have useful exposure.
Speaking to a J&K media delegation, Mr. Wagh underlined the port’s relevance for the Union Territory. “JNPA serves as the gateway port for Jammu and Kashmir. Efficient port connectivity is crucial for the movement of goods such as handicrafts, walnuts, apples, and horticultural and Agro produce to both domestic and international markets,” he said. Highlighting India Maritime Week 2025, scheduled for October 27-31 in Mumbai, he encouraged J&K businessmen, exporters, and entrepreneurs to participate in the event, which will feature delegates from over 100 countries and provide a platform to build partnerships.
At the JNPA headquarters, Mr. Wagh highlighted the port’s strategic significance as India’s largest container-handling port, emphasizing its role in enhancing maritime trade, improving logistics efficiency, and driving national economic growth. He discussed ongoing modernization projects, expansion plans, and innovative logistics solutions that have positioned JNPA as a global benchmark in port operations.
The Chairman also provided details on the upcoming Vadhvan Port Project, which is projected to become India’s largest port and the world’s seventh-largest container hub, further strengthening trade links for J&K and other regions.
Earlier, the delegation was briefed by Ambika Singh, Senior Manager Marketing & PRO, JNPA, and DGM, Corporate Communications & Training, Vadhvan Port Project Ltd., who presented an overview of JNPA’s operations, digitalization efforts, and green initiatives. She explained the port’s terminal functions, sustainability measures, and ongoing projects, including the Vadhvan Port Project, which is expected to be operational by 2030.
For journalists from Jammu and Kashmir, the session underscored the critical importance of strategic port infrastructure for regional economic development. By connecting local enterprises with global markets, JNPA not only facilitates exports but also enhances the visibility of J&K’s high-value products like apples, walnuts, and handicrafts, integrating them into global value chains.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Media Tour comprising 14 media persons from Kashmir and Jammu to Mumbai commenced on Oct 05. The media tour is led by Neha Jalali, Director, PIB J&K. The media tour aims to provide J&K journalists with first hand exposure to India’s national infrastructure, trade, and developmental initiatives. PIB, Mumbai, has facilitated the itinerary while Jaidevi Pujari Swami, Deputy Director, PIB Mumbai, was also present during the engagement.
The five-day media tour organized by PIB J&K will continue with visits to other Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) and developmental institutions, aiming to strengthen the understanding of national projects and foster closer engagement between regional media and key institutions.
