Jammu, Sep 28: Jammu Police today unearthed the blind murder of a woman initially projected as a natural death, an incident uncovered incidentally a day after the visit of the Chairperson of the National Women Commission.
Police said that, acting swiftly and with meticulous attention to available evidence, Police Station Bahu Fort, under the command of Inspector Sushil Choudhary, arrested the husband of the deceased woman, solving a case that had remained unreported for nearly a month.
The investigation was conducted under the close supervision of SSP Jammu, with overall monitoring by SP South and SDPO East, ensuring a thorough and time-bound probe.
On September 26, police said, one Sabina Sunuwar of Dhol Wali Gali, Nai Basti, Jammu, lodged a written complaint regarding the suspicious death of her sister, Simriti Sunwar, wife of Tej Pal Singh of Mangnar, District Poonch, presently residing in Trikuta Nagar Extension, Jammu.
The complainant stated that on the fateful day, her brother-in-law, Tej Pal Singh, took his wife for alleged medical treatment.
However, the next day, he returned with her dead body and conducted her cremation at Shastri Nagar Cremation Ground in a hurried manner to conceal evidence, without getting a postmortem conducted and without informing law enforcement authorities.
The complainant further alleged that the deceased had been subjected to cruelty, bore suspicious ligature marks on her neck, and that there were financial disputes between the couple over the purchase of a new house.
Photographs supporting these allegations were submitted, police said.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Police Station Bahu Fort.
Police added that a professional investigation team, including the FSL team and a crime photographer, inspected the rented accommodation, collected relevant evidence, and recorded statements of witnesses.
On the basis of the scientific examination and gathered evidence, the accused, Tej Pal Singh, was arrested, while further investigation into the case is ongoing, police said.
