Jammu Tawi, Apr 3: Jammu Police have cracked the sensational Greater Kailash gold shop robbery case, arresting the culprits and recovering the stolen gold. The daylight heist at Anand Jewelers in Greater Kailash, Fowara Chowk, had created fear among the Swarnkar community and sent shockwaves across the city.
The broad day-light robbery incident occurred on February 1 when two armed robbers barged into Anand Jewellers shop. At the time, only the woman shop owner was present inside. The assailants, wielding a deadly Toka blade, placed it against her throat, instilling fear before looting gold, cash, and a mobile phone. The criminals then fled the scene, leaving the victim traumatized and the entire area in panic.
The incident that spread a shockwave among the citizenry about the safety and security of the commoner in Jammu threw a challenge to the police. A case was immediately registered at Police Station Gangyal. Jammu’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of SP City South, with SDPO City South leading the probe.
After a thorough investigation with the help of a combination of intelligence gathering, technological surveillance, and efficient fieldwork, the investigative team managed to track down the culprits and recover a large portion of the stolen gold.
Police said that culprits were identified and arrested the key perpetrators behind the crime. The mastermind was revealed to be Rahul Sharma, an advocate by profession, residing in Lower Kanal near Grameen Bank, Bishnah. He, along with two accomplices, had planned and executed the robbery with precision. Shockingly, initial questioning revealed that they drew inspiration from a similar gold shop robbery in Delhi’s Samaypur Badli in 2023. The criminals meticulously studied that case before replicating the modus operandi in Jammu.
The culprits were today presented before the media and the senior police officers shared the information regarding the incident and its modus operandi adopted by the culprits.
Among the recovered items were multiple gold ornaments, including chains, bangles, rings, Jhumkas, lockets, Kante, and even a sterling silver watch. Following the successful crackdown, Jammu Police issued an advisory to the public, urging shopkeepers and business owners to enhance security measures. They advised the installation of CCTV cameras, keeping minimal valuables on display, and promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or by dialing 100.
