Srinagar, Jan 18: Jammu and Kashmir Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan announced on Saturday that the fare for electric rickshaws in the region has been fixed at 10 per kilometer per passenger, with a maximum distance limit of 6 kilometers. Additionally, he confirmed that meters will now be mandatory for all other auto-rickshaws operating in the area.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Mahajan warned that strict action would be taken against drivers found overcharging passengers or operating without the required permits. He emphasized the importance of road safety, stating that drivers play a critical role in preventing accidents. “Road safety is the primary responsibility of the driver,” he said, urging motorists to avoid violations such as speeding and not wearing helmets.
Addressing the issue of delays in the issuance of driving licenses, Mahajan acknowledged the concern but reassured the public that a new tender for license printing was nearly complete. He assured that driving licenses would soon be delivered by post and encouraged drivers to use the Digilocker app for digital access to their licenses in the meantime.
The Commissioner also called on citizens to follow designated routes and assured that measures were in place to ensure public safety.
