Jammu Tawi, Dec 22: Mahajan Sabha Gandhi Nagar today celebrated the 135th birth anniversary of Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan at Meher Chand Mahajan Park, Gandhi Nagar, with reverence and enthusiasm. The event was marked by tributes and a series of speeches highlighting his pivotal role in the history of Jammu and Kashmir and India.
Jugal Mahajan, Chief Patron of Mahajan Sabha, paid heartfelt tributes to Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan, describing him as a great patriot whose wisdom was instrumental in the integration of Jammu and Kashmir with India. K.B. Jandial, retired IAS officer, remembered Mahajan’s significant contributions, particularly his role as a member of the Radcliffe Boundary Commission for Punjab. Jandial emphasized that Mahajan ensured road connectivity to Jammu through Gurdaspur, a crucial factor that facilitated the state’s accession to India.
Ravi Rohmetra, a prominent columnist and social activist, spoke about Justice Mahajan’s remarkable life and career. He recounted Mahajan’s work in various important roles, including as a member of the Redcliff Boundary Commission and later as the Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Bhanu Mahajan, Vice President of Mahajan Sabha Gandhi Nagar and Acting Working President of the Congress Party J&K, also addressed the gathering. She urged the attendees to emulate the values and principles of justice, nationalism, simplicity, and social reform that Justice Mahajan upheld throughout his life.
Vipin Gupta, President of Mahajan Sabha Channi, reiterated Mahajan’s key role in ensuring Jammu’s road connectivity, which was essential for the state’s accession to India.
The event also featured the garlanding of Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan’s statue, followed by a Havan ceremony. Several dignitaries, including Prem Gupta (IGP), Dr. R.K. Gupta (Senior Vice President), P.C. Gupta (General Secretary), and other members of the Mahajan Sabha, were present. A large number of prominent members of the Mahajan Biradari participated in the commemorative function.
