SRINAGAR, Dec 6: An army personnel died of a cardiac arrest while participating in a search operation in the upper areas of Srinagar on Friday, officials said. The operation was underway in the Harwan forest area, which followed an encounter in nearby Dachigam on Tuesday, during which Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Junaid Ahmed Bhat was killed.
Bhat, a top-ranking “A” category LeT terrorist, was linked to the October 20 attack near a tunnel construction site in Gangerbal, which resulted in the deaths of a local doctor and six non-local labourers.
While conducting searches for other terrorists in the Faqeer Gujree and Dara regions of Harwan this morning, army jawan Jasvinder Singh, a member of the 34 Assam Rifles, tragically succumbed to a cardiac arrest.
Since the encounter on Tuesday, security forces have been carrying out extensive search operations in the area to locate additional militants.
