New Delhi: Several Opposition MPs, led by the Congress, staged a protest march inside the Parliament complex on Friday, demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani Group’s affairs. The MPs, wearing black masks emblazoned with the slogan “Modi Adani bhai bhai,” marched while holding a copy of the Constitution and raised slogans against industrialist Gautam Adani.
Members from parties including the RJD, JMM, and left-wing factions joined the protest. However, the TMC and Samajwadi Party, which have refrained from participating in such demonstrations, did not take part in the march. This has been seen by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as a sign of division within the opposition bloc.
Among the participants were Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the newly elected MP from Wayanad. Priyanka later accused the government of avoiding a discussion on the Adani issue, questioning why the government was reluctant to address it.
The protest follows the opposition’s repeated calls for a JPC investigation into the Adani Group, especially after the indictment of Adani and other company officials in a U.S. court. The Congress has argued that the charges against Adani “vindicate” its demand for a parliamentary probe into the alleged scams involving the billionaire’s conglomerate. Rahul Gandhi has also called for Adani’s arrest, though the Adani Group has denied all allegations, dismissing them as “baseless.”
