    LG Mishra attends inaugural session of Ladakh Education Conclave

    Leh, Nov 22, 2024: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) attended the inaugural session of the Ladakh Education Conclave 2024 as the chief guest in the presence of Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon and Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Shri Tsering Angchuk. The two-day Ladakh Education Conclave 2024, a joint initiative by the Higher Education Department, School Education Department and Ladakh Skill Development Mission, aims to unite policymakers, institutions, industries, experts, teachers, students and communities to collaborate on a holistic approach to education by aligning school education, vocational skilling and higher education as per the National Education Policy 2020 and current trends.

    Speaking at the event, the HLG expressed his happiness seeing dedicated panelists from across the country participating in the Ladakh Education Conclave 2024. The HLG stated that education has to be student-centric along with society’s expectations for a teacher to live for the student. He also spoke about education heritage in India, the systemic dissemination of cultural and traditional educational heritage in India, education management in independent India and society’s expectations from teachers.

    Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, stated that the Ladakh Education Conclave will provide a platform to share ideas of best teaching practices, highlighting education’s role in shaping lives and nurturing the potential of every child. Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk apprised the HLG of the issue of the student-teacher ratio in Ladakh, the lack of adequate teaching staff and the low enrolment of students in government schools. He requested the HLG to make government schools functional at the grassroots level, provide adequate staff to make smart classes and Atal Tinkering labs functional, create posts for computer teachers, the judicious use of Education and Environment Science lecturers and funds from both CAPEX and SDP for building infrastructure for schools.

    Earlier, Principal Secretary, School Education Department, Sanjeev Khirwar, welcomed the guests while Secretary, Bhanu Prabha, gave the vote of thanks.

    Executive Councillors and Councillors from LAHDC Leh and LAHDC Kargil; Advisor to the HLG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner/Secretary, Padma Angmo, IIS; Directors/ Head of Departments; resource persons, educators, principals/headmasters, lecturers, assistant professors, teachers, members of Village Education Committees, government officials from Leh and Kargil along with students were present in the inaugural session.
