JAMMU, Nov 14: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has extended the last date for the physical verification of pensioners to November 30, 2024, providing a final opportunity for those yet to complete the mandatory process.

As per the order issued by Director General, Accounts & Treasuries, Finance Department, the verification exercise, initially launched in July 2024, aimed at verifying and digitizing the records of pensioners and family pensioners, with the initial deadline set for September 30, 2024. However, the government granted an extension until October 30, 2024, to accommodate pensioners who faced difficulties in completing their verification.

In consideration of elderly and infirm pensioners, the government implemented additional measures to ensure inclusivity. Treasury staff conducted home visits, completing verifications for approximately 7,000 pensioners directly at their residences. For those pensioners residing outside Jammu and Kashmir, a video-graphic verification mechanism was introduced, facilitating the process without the need for in-person attendance.

The verification initiative received significant cooperation, with 2.28 lakh pensioners out of a total of 2.43 lakh completing the process. However, despite these interventions, about 15,000 pensioners have not responded to the verification call. To address this, the government has decided to offer one final extension to November 30, 2024. Treasury officers will issue written notices to the remaining pensioners, reminding them of this requirement.

Pensioners who fail to report for verification by the new deadline risk suspension of their pension disbursements, the order read.
