Although, soon after getting the hint that NC will emerge victorious in the J&K Assembly polls, the voices started emanating from various sections of the party to have conflict-free relationship with the Centre after forming the government but what is apparently seen is the fact that things won’t be so easy as being expected by the NC leadership.
The first and foremost point of contention is the different stands on the issue of Article 370 abrogation. The National Conference has made this issue as one of its main planks in the Assembly Polls and on the contrary, the central government led by BJP is having strong resolve in support of the decision taken to abrogate the contentious Article 370 of the constitution.
What is apparently coming to fore is that the differences between the aforesaid entities will increase on this very issue as till date the statement of NC leader and the probable CM candidate that his government will bring resolution against the abrogation of Article 370 during the very first session of the UT Assembly in itself is a testimony to fact that ride for the NC leadership is going to be bumpy and very uncomfortable.
With several powers given to the LG of the UT under the Reorganization Act, the conflicts are likely to remain in the power corridors and therefore the idea of having cordial relations with the centre seems to be too ideal but not at all practical.
With change in situation after the changes of August 2019 in J&K, whosoever sits in the Assembly in the capacity of a chief minister would have to go for trade-off on many issues and decisions. The claims made by the NC leadership will have to pass through difficult times before becoming the reality, which is a sad state of affair, as far as the people of J&K are concerned because the UT status has diminished the stature of the chief minister and raised kind of bottlenecks in his working capacity by erecting parallel powerful entity in the shape of LG, who has been accorded with more power to keep check on the working of the government in the UT.
