New Delhi – Top policymakers and state leaders convened today for the ninth meeting of the NITI Aayog’s governing council, the premier think tank’s highest decision making body chaired by the Prime Minister.
On the agenda was kickstarting discussions on developing a vision document to transform India into a $30 trillion economy by 2047, in line with PM Modi’s goal of positioning the nation as a leading player on the global stage.
Chief ministers from several opposition states however stayed away, citing issues such as an alleged discriminatory union budget as a reason. Notable absentees included Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Punjab and the three Congress-ruled states of Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh and Telangana.
At the meeting, priority areas like job creation, infrastructure development, sustainable energy usage and digital innovation were highlighted as being critical to achieving the ambitious economic target over the coming decades.
State leaders in attendance also shared their best practices and regional success stories. This included initiatives around access to basic services, social welfare schemes, industry clusters and eco-friendly development.
As the premier government think tank looks to galvanize collaborative efforts across levels, such discussion aimed to facilitate a participatory approach and help craft a shared national vision of progress. The roadmap is expected to lay the groundwork for coordinated action to elevate living standards and make India a global powerhouse.
