Gautam Gambhir bids an emotional farewell to Kolkata and KKR fans
Former India opening batsman and current Team India head coach, Gautam Gambhir recently shared a heartfelt video message bidding farewell to his fans in Kolkata and the fans of Kolkata Knight Riders franchise. Gambhir had led KKR to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014 as their captain. He was instrumental in guiding them to their third championship in 2024 as their mentor.
In the video posted on his social media account, Gambhir thanked the city of Kolkata and its passionate supporters for embracing him as one of their own. He said that he felt he was as much a part of Kolkata as any local, sharing in their joy and sorrow. Gambhir expressed that though his playing days with KKR had come to an end, he and the fans will always remain bonded in their love and support for the franchise.
Gautam Gambhir had established himself as a vital cog for KKR through his contributions with both bat and leadership over his career with them. After retiring as a player, he continued assisting the team from the mentor’s role and played a guiding hand in their last title triumph. Last week, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced Gambhir’s appointment as the new head coach of the Indian men’s national team, replacing Rahul Dravid.
In the video, Gambhir hinted that while moving on from KKR, his goal and devotion to win glory for the nation will remain the same as Team India coach. He thanked the Cricket Association of Bengal and KKR franchise for all the memories and support over the years. The classy farewell message struck an emotional chord with the city of Kolkata and its legion of passionate cricket followers.
