King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla were attending scheduled engagements as part of their royal visit to New Jersey when they were abruptly removed from the location by security personnel. Eyewitnesses reported that the King had stopped to speak with an organizer at an agriculture event when a member of the royal security team whispered to him and then escorted both royals away from the area.
While the exact nature of the potential threat is unknown, the rapid response by security indicates they took the situation very seriously. An investigation was immediately launched into the incident, though no further dangers were uncovered. All attendees were screened as a precaution.
The visit to New Jersey was part of Charles and Camilla’s tour of the Channel Islands, British Crown dependencies off the coast of France. In addition to agriculture discussions and meeting local residents, the couple had also planned to attend ceremonial events with political leaders. However, the security concern required modifications to the itinerary on the day in question.
After being cleared of risks, the remaining engagements resumed as scheduled. The royals were warmly received throughout their time in New Jersey before departing. Moving forward, their security protocols will undoubtedly face intense scrutiny in light of this scare.
