Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 sees 80% drop on second weekday

The highly anticipated sequel Indian 2, starring veteran actor Kamal Haasan, has witnessed a significant drop in box office numbers on its second Monday. According to reports, the action drama raked in approximately Rs 3 crores on its fourth day, facing a nearly 80% decline from the previous day’s collections.

Directed by Shankar, Indian 2 sees Kamal Haasan reprising his role as Senapathy, a vigilante who fights against social injustice. While the film opened to mixed reviews, its massive multi-starrer cast including Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh and Karthi had created hype among fans.

However, the response appeared to be lukewarm beyond the opening weekend. Monday’s figures are alarming for the big-budget production, suggesting lack of word-of-mouth publicity. The drop was seen across versions, with even the Tamil version losing major traction.

With this steep fall, Indian 2 has so far garnered around Rs 62 crores at the domestic box office. Unless faring surprisingly well on weekdays, it will struggle to recover costs. The crash has come as a disappointment to the makers and fans, given the high expectations from Kamal Haasan and Shankar joining hands after 30 years.

Meanwhile, Prabhas’ pan-India blockbuster Kalki has stood strong, continuing its dream run. In its third week, the period sci-fi collected over Rs 4 crores on Monday. With fantastichold all over, Kalki seems on course to emerge as a mega-blockbuster.

Going ahead, Indian 2 faces challenges against new releases like Bad Newwz that could affect its screen count. Only a dramatic turnaround can improve its box office fate from here on.
